AICLS COLOURING IN COMPETITION RESULTS

I am happy to announce that the competition was judged by the management committee of the Board of Community Language Schools NSW.

We received 218 entries. This was overwhelming!

It was difficult to judge. We looked at colour, artwork, neatness and took age differences into account.

The winners are as follows:

1st prize of $100
Djordje, 12, from the Serbian Language School, Wollongong

first prize winner

2nd prize of $50
Vivian, 8, from the Wollongong Mandarin Chinese School, Austinmer

second prize winner

3rd prize of $30
Jacob, 5, from the Cringila Arabic School, Cringila

third prize winner

4th prize of $20
Maria, 8, from the Holy Cross Greek School, Wollongong

fourth prize winner

Certificates and the money will be given to the principal of each community language school.

Best wishes

Thank you very much for participating. Sabine Hauth

About AICLS

About the Illwarra Community Language Schools

Community Language Schools are established by parents and teachers who have significant links with the communities who speak the language.

In general classes are conducted for school age students but some schools cater for adult learners as well. Languages are taught for 2 hours per week, outside school hours but during school term time.

In addition to language many schools offer tuition in cultural activities such as dancing and singing.

AICLS is an umbrella organisation which supports community language schools. It provides advice on applying for funding and professional development opportunities for teachers.

Why Study languages?

  • promotes a sense of cultural identity resulting in heightened self—confidence and self-esteem
  • helps students develop links with other communities and cultures.
  • improves students' performance across the curriculum through enhanced literacy
  • skills which are transferable to English
  • places students in a better position to take advantage of employment opportunities
  • allows students to become sensitive global citizens

learning languages is learning to live together
